Scholarship Program

How It Works

In October we begin accepting applications for the coming school year. Returning scholarship recipients are granted priority. The Scholarship program is governed by a volunteer Scholarship Committee that establishes the amount of scholarship given and the rules for selection of scholarship recipients.

The monthly scholarship has been established at approximately $30 per month in local currency, which we provide for the ten months of the school year which commences in January and ends in October. The money goes for uniforms, shoes, school supplies, transportation and other basic needs for a student.

In order to disburse the money each month, we require proof of attendance and performance.

Many of the students would not be able to continue studying if it were not for the monthly subsidy.

At the end of the year, we hold an awards ceremony where we recognize the effort of each child that completes the program. It is a heart-warming experience, and over the years we have seen the children become more and more motivated to do their best and complete their education. Most students in the program improve every year they are with us.

Bonita and I truly feel it an honor to be able to serve some of God’s neediest in this part of the world. We would also feel it a great privilege to have you join us in this worthy cause that means so much to the families we help. We believe that education is the only hope for many to escape the bonds of poverty.

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be between the ages of six and eighteen on the date the school year commences.

  2. The student applicants must have earned a minimum overall 70% average and not have failed, or had to repeat any subject during the last two school year cycles, if they have been in school that long.

  3. Applicants cannot have missed more than twenty school days in the previous school year.

  4. Applicants must come from a low income family as defined by the scholarship committee.

For the past eight years, FUNDEQ has scholarshipped a little over 100 students each year.

For the year 2022 Fundeq has granted scholarships to 140 students in Guatemala and 40 students in Honduras.
